Cute, Pretty, & Creative DIY Mermaid Party Decorations

Planning the biggest splash at your mermaid party is not an easy task but it is so satisfying when everything comes together. I have recently found out how true this actually is. My daughter has just turned six-years-old and requested a mermaid theme for her party this year. That’s an easy request, right? The answer is yes but it can be overwhelming.

Unleash Your Creativity

I am in love with decorating and planning parties, so when there is a theme involved, I literally dive right in! I took on this party as if I were the mermaid swimming and scouring for dinglehoppers and treasures galore. I swam through Pinterest boards like no one’s business. I do believe that the best way to get started is to get inspired by what other people are doing.

I always start with a huge idea then scale it down with the color schemes and party size in mind. For Fiona’s party, I knew I had about 50 people and it would be outdoors in a park pavilion. Easy right? There is not a good way to answer that but I did make it easier by having a party plan and making lists!

Ain’t No Party Like Craftin Nikki Party!

This party was not just a mermaid party, it was a big deal. I was inviting some people I really didn’t know too well, and we were having so many kids attend…like about 25…so that’s a lot. I did plan some fun and games too, but that will be a whole other post that I will include here later. Let’s see how much of a splash we made!

Let’s see what I come up with! Hopefully these examples inspire you for your next mermaid party as well.

Mermaid Selfie Board

A special personalized touch to any mermaid party is to have a hand painted mermaid tail! I had so much fun painting this with my daughter. This just made the party that more special.

Mermaid Shell Mason Jar Centerpieces

Re-purposing mason jars is a great way to make something old new again. These add a pop of color and also double as a weight for any table cover. Our party was outdoors on a windy day so they came in very handy.

Mermaid Doll Birthday Cake

You know that your party will be a big hit as long as you have the coolest cake. This is 100% true and I know from experience. It rained all day during our outdoor party but it was still a success, and you want to know why?? Because of my mermaid cake of course! I absolutely love design cakes and working with fondant.

Dinglehopper, Whatsits, & Whosits Utensil Holders

Dinglehoppers are not forks! They deserve to be shown off to your party goers as your most popular treasures. Make themed signs and add some real seashells for the extra splash of fun.

Mermaid Birthday Favor Cups

Here is a little spin on the classic favor bag. I used the gold twisty ties that came with the bags to fold the ends into the shape of a mermaid tail. Then an extra special touch of personalization by printing my own favor tags. Mermaid Theme Food Labels

I am a huge fan of seaweed sticks and mermaid potions. of course they should have to be a staple at every theme party where there are fishies!

Mermaid Birthday Number

Every dessert table has to have a large number display that tells the party how old the birthday boy/girl is turning! I found this paintable number six at my local Hobby Lobby and painted in the same colors from the other decorations. I then embelished it with paintes shells, pearl strands, and rhinestones…lots of rhinestones.

Happy Birthday Sign Party Balloon Banner

Even if it’s going to be a windy day, get the balloon banner! I am a firm believer that balloons add that extra of the extra that all parties need. I have been acused of having too many balloons at my parties before…too many! Now, I always go all in and do the balloon tape, helium, and a mix of many other sizes throughout the venue.
